"Tattoo", sort of....

While on my recent trip to SF, I did these color roughs for Illustration Friday (during the five and a half hours of time that it takes to get there). Usually it is time lost that you never get back, but I try to make the most of it. It usually makes the time fly....so to speak.
I have no time to finish this one by Friday, so.............I think I am going to take my time with it and do a finished piece. The idea is an old proper looking woman sitting next to this really big, nasty looking guy, both waiting to get tattooed. I just loved that silly expression on her face. I will get to soon and post it right here for your amusement (hopefully!).

"Celebrate"

In 2001 I was commissioned by the United States Postal Service and The Walt Disney Company to create a series of stamps. This was a project that was avoided by Disney for a long time and there was great pressure to make the images significant for both Disney and the USPS.
Originally the series was supposed to consist of four images only. There was a change in plans while I was finishing the first of the stamps that were designed and the set was expanded to twelve. Here is the second set which were released last year with the theme " Celebrate". I never got around to posting them on my website as I did the first set....sooooo here they are, FINALLY!
These are the images without being cropped, with no price. The next set of images will be released in April and the theme is "Romance". It has truly been an honor to have my work on postage stamps- especially when I get them in the mail!
BTW- These were done in acrylic on masonite

James Lipton

I had the good fortune (depending on how you look at it) of being able to attend a taping of "Inside the Actors Studio'' Hosted by the wonderfully, overly melodramatic James Lipton. These tapings last about three hours long and they edit them down to an hour. Quite honestly It was fun but I felt the need to keep myself amused during some of it. It was light enough in the theater so I was able to draw with no problem. I did laugh to myself when he reprimanded the audience during the break for coughing too much. He has control issues I think. Anyway, I hope you like them.
And remember...." You're a Delight."

Some fiddling around.

Here is a little watercolor I did on Fabriano paper. I bought the smallest cards they had to do little exercises for myself. The quality of the paper is wonderful and they warp only slightly.
This is just random and there is no planning involved. I have no idea what I am going to paint by the time I start. I love drawing the uglier, meaner looking characters the most I must say. Even when I was at Disney I always enjoyed drawing the Villains most.
Her expression is similar to a previous woman I posted. I must like that sly look.
