James Lipton

I had the good fortune (depending on how you look at it) of being able to attend a taping of "Inside the Actors Studio'' Hosted by the wonderfully, overly melodramatic James Lipton. These tapings last about three hours long and they edit them down to an hour. Quite honestly It was fun but I felt the need to keep myself amused during some of it. It was light enough in the theater so I was able to draw with no problem. I did laugh to myself when he reprimanded the audience during the break for coughing too much. He has control issues I think. Anyway, I hope you like them.

And remember...." You're a Delight."

Here is a little watercolor I did on Fabriano paper. I bought the smallest cards they had to do little exercises for myself. The quality of the paper is wonderful and they warp only slightly.

This is just random and there is no planning involved. I have no idea what I am going to paint by the time I start. I love drawing the uglier, meaner looking characters the most I must say. Even when I was at Disney I always enjoyed drawing the Villains most.

Her expression is similar to a previous woman I posted. I must like that sly look.

Taking the train to NYC is much more fun than I thought it was going to be. I do a lot of drawing on the train and I love when people wake to see me staring at them, they get totally freaked out. Here area a few examples.

Something Different

Here is a character design for a book I have been fooling around with . This is the kind of work I like doing the most and is what I am trying to spend more time on. Hope you all like it.

Woman on Metro-North Train

I usually drive to the city if I have to teach a class or something, (Jared and I moved into a great big house in the beginning of this year) but today I took the train home - CHOCK FULL of people to draw! I think I am going to do it more often. This woman was great with her stubby nose and big bottom lip.

Students often ask what i look for in someone to draw. When I have people like this in front of me it is not that hard to figure out. She was a caricature already, all I had to do was puit it down on paper. Very few things please me like drawing.

Barnes & Noble...again!

This time it is the B&N in Union Square.

They have a reading area on the fourth floor that is also used for guest speakers and events. Chairs are always set up audience style so I just turn my seat around and go to it. Most people have no clue someone is watching them half the time, which in itself is a scary thought. An even scarier thought is the sad looking woman with the greasy hair and the plaid shirt, she really looked like that.

I have to post something other than ugly people at Barnes and Noble. I have some character designs that I will put up soon.

When no one is threatening......

...to blow up the Subway, it is still a great place to draw.

Crocheting

I love drawing people doing simple, everyday activities. To me these are the easiest and most interesting subjects. This woman was crocheting and was so focused as well as peaceful.

Lady at Barnes & Noble

I drew this today at the Barnes & Noble on Central Ave. in Yonkers. I am intrigued at the moment by trois crayons (that's a fancy French name for Red, Black & White). I thought this one was the best attempt that I made today. I will keep trying.
