The Landlady
Last year I took Chris Sasaki's Advanced Character Design class at the Animation Collaborative in Emeryville, Ca and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life. Chris is a great man, designer and teacher and I will always be grateful for the lesson's learned. When showing us previous assignments for other classes he mention the Roald Dahl story "The Landlady" about a sweet old woman who funds a B&B and wants her lodgers to stay on much longer than they intended (if you get my drift!). I remember it being on 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' and I thought I would take a crack at it for my portfolio this year. Here are some initial concepts.

Harry Potter trio
I wanted to get through more of the characters before the CTN Expo in November, but this may have to do for now...

Diana Vreeland
The other night we went to see "Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel" all about the famous editor of both Harper's Bazaar (1937-1962) and Vogue (1962-1971) not to mention becoming the consultant to the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 1971.
Overly rouged with a fabulous outlook on life, she was extremely quotable..for example: "There's only one really good life, and that's the life that you know you want, and you make it yourself!" or "The only real elegance is in the mind; if you've got that, the rest really comes from it".
I first became aware of who she was as a teenager because in the 1957 movie musical "Funny Face", the character of Maggie Prescott (as portrayed by the divine Kay Thompson) was based on Vreeland. Go and see it if you have any interest in Fashion, style or just plain fun...Trust me it has Pizazz!!
